Letters, certificates of receipt, soundscribers, telegrams, reports, memos, notes, newspaper clippings and government documentation relating to the holdings and administration of the New Brunswick Museum in general and to the collection and shipment by Lord Beaverbrook of his "gifts" of prints, books, manuscripts, sculptures, sketches, engravings, model airplanes, furniture, silver, etc. to the museum in particular. The file contains itemized lists of items shipped, damages to items shipped and procedures for shipping goods through customs. It also discusses the history of the establishment of the museum, the building's use by the Canadian Government during and after the war, proposed repairs to it, the resignation of J.B.M. Baxter and the election of J. Clarence Webster as President of the museum, Beaverbrook's gift of 30,000 (CONTINUED). (CONTINUES)dollars to help complete the third floor and his relinquishing of this gift; Beaverbrook's proposed plan to construct a library in Saint John as well as the pamphlet "White Horses" (1897) by Rudyard Kipling, reputed to be a forgery; silver epergne presented to Peter Mitchell in 1874 donated to the town of Newcastle and a brief history surrounding the autographed letter from Lord Nelson to Lady Hamilton {70431}. Brief mention is also made of British politics and there is a precis of correspondence relating to the proposed reconditioning of the museum. Copies of various museum publications are also included in the file including History Bulletin (Mar. 1954, Apr. 1955, Spring 1964); Art Bulletin (1954, Sept. 1962, Dec. 1963, Mar. 1964); Nature News (Aug. 1963, Oct. 1963, Nov.-Dec. 1963, Mar. 1964) and Annual Reports (1940, 1952).
